A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height consisting of a silver metal flame surmounted by two silver metal hands grasping a red eight pointed mullet, the hands enveloped at the wrists by a blue scroll inscribed "SUPPORT" in silver metal letters.
The hands grasping the mullet of eight points allude to the mission of the Battalion, that of support. The flames represent the Northern Lights. The eight pointed mullet symbolizes the seven stars of the Big Dipper plus the North Star, thus alluding to Alaska. The color blue refers to the Infantry.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 5 January 1966.
